It All Started in Nettuno...

Giuseppe Calvani, founder of La Cantina was born in the Italian seaside town of Nettuno, just west of Rome in the 1940's. Giuseppe's first experience in the hospitality industry was as a barista at the local coffee shop. After working in multiple catering positions, including as a waiter on roller-skates! Giuseppe enrolled at a well respected catering college to further his training. Shortly after graduating he became aware of the buzzing tourism industry in the Channel Islands and set sail to start what would be a very successful +40 year hospitality career on the island of Jersey.

Hospitality In The Blood...

Marcus Calvani, Giuseppe's youngest son was born on the island of Jersey, attended St. Michael's School and then later St. Edward's Oxford. He then traveled even further afield and became the Channel Island's first graduate of the world famous Cornell University School of Hospitality Management in New York State, USA. After working in the hospitality concept design and development industry in the USA, Marcus found himself steering back to food and beverage. It was in his blood from his early days of pushing the dessert trolly around his father's restaurant La Buca, he knew he couldn't escape it, and in 2009 return with his wife back to Jersey to take over the family business.

The Calvani Group...

Since returning to the island, Marcus has formed The Calvani Group, a hospitality management, consulting and importing company. The Calvani Group is proud to consult for The Channel Islands CoOperative on their Grand Marche Deli offerings and Italian food lines. The Calvani Group is the exclusive Channel Islands agents for the following companies and brands: Carnevale Italian Food Specialists, Banfi Italian Wines, Joe's Tea Company, Chichester Biltong Company, and The Wild Beer Company.

Be Served Group...

Marcus joined forces with Joshua Band, a former Common Wealth Games professional Table Tennis player in 2015 when they jointly created JB's Smokehouse and Craft Beer Bar. JB's pioneered local Island dining and drinking as it was the first craft beer establishment in the Channel Islands and the first Smokehouse. Since then, Josh and Marcus have created the Be Served Group, a +40 person, hospitality operations company which currently comprises of La Cantina Restaurant, JB's Brewhouse, The Lido @ Havre des Pas, Bliss Brewing Company and The Jersey Royal Distillery Company.
